John Urry

John has a BA, MA (economics) and PhD (sociology) from Cambridge. He is a distinguished Professor of Sociology, Lancaster University; Council Member of the Academy of Social Sciences; Chair RAE Panels (1996, 2001); Fellow RSA; Honorary Doctorate, Roskilde. Currently, he is Director of the Centre for Mobilities Research.

John has been a science expert on a Foresight Programme (2005-6), a member of the Science and Engineering Review of DfT (2009) and co-author of Electric Vehicles for RAE (2010).

He has published c35 books including Mobilities, Networks, Geographies (2006), Mobilities (2007), Aeromobilities (2009), After the Car (2009), Mobile Lives (2010), Mobile Methods (2010), and Climate Change and Society (2011).

He is currently writing on 'peak oil'.
