PhD Application Process

The Centre, as part of the Grantham Research Institute, at London School of Economics and Political Science, hosts a group of PhD students working on climate change and environmental topics. These students receive their research training in one of the LSE's teaching departments, being placed according to discipline. They then carry out their research in the Centre.

Therefore we do not handle PhD applications directly. Students who wish to apply to study in our areas of interest should follow the LSE application process, details of which are on the LSE website for graduate admissions |

Applications should be made via the teaching department closest to the student's interests. This is often the Department of Geography and Environment, although applications to other departments such as Economics, International Relations and Statistics are also possible, if you are suitably qualified. Your application should be clearly marked 'climate change'.

What we would recommend is that you visit the website of the department closest to your interests and skills. Links to Geography and Environment, Economics, International Relations, and Statistics are below. These web pages will give you comprehensive information regarding how to apply for a PhD at LSE and will also give you information regarding what is required:

If your qualifications meet LSE's requirements then your application will be sent to the relevant department's research student admissions tutor who will consider the case and see whether appropriate supervisory arrangements can be made. Supervisors could be from the relevant department and/or the Grantham Research Institute. It is important that you give as much information as possible about the disciplinary perspectives and research methodologies you expect to use to help us identify suitable supervisors.

Studentships

The deadline for the Grantham Research Institute Studentships has now closed.  It is unlikely that any further studentships will be advertised before February 2011.
