New commission confronts threats to food security from climate change

15 March 2011

Over the coming months, thirteen eminent scientists and economists from around the world will work together to synthesise major studies and identify pathways to address food security in the context of climate change.

Chaired by Sir John Beddington (UK Chief Science Adviser), the Commission on Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change will seek to build international consensus on policy actions to help global agriculture adapt to climate change, achieve food security and reduce poverty and greenhouse gas emissions.

Primary policy targets will include the UNFCCC, the G-20 and the Rio+20 Earth Summit.

The Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy (CCCEP) supported CCAFS (the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security), in setting up the Commission.
