Nicola Attarzadeh

Research student

Nicola's PhD will be exploring agriculture as a driver of deforestation in Tanzania, and the policy and cost implications of addressing it within REDD+ and other PES schemes.

She is based in the Environment Department at the University of York and jointly registered with the University of Leeds.

Background

Nicola has a BSc (Hons) in Biology and an MSc in Environmental Technology, both from Imperial College, London.

Prior to her PhD, Nicola worked in sustainable agriculture and food chain carbon footprinting, based in the UK as well as Guyana, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

Research interests

  • Livelihoods and land use linkages; 
  • Sustainable food chains; 
  • Carbon balance in forests, agroforestry and agricultural systems;
  • Carbon markets as a mechanism for poverty alleviation.
