PhD application process (LSE)

The Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy (CCCEP) is part of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment |at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

The research institute hosts a group of PhD students working on climate change and environmental topics. These students receive their research training in one of the LSE's teaching departments, being placed according to discipline. They then carry out their research in the Centre.

The Centre does not therefore handle PhD applications directly. Students who wish to apply to study in its areas of interest should follow the LSE application process: details are on the LSE website for graduate admissions|.

Applications should be made via the teaching department closest to the student's interests. This is often the Department of Geography and Environment, although applications to other departments such as Economics, International Relations and Statistics are also possible, if suitably qualified. The application should be clearly marked 'climate change'.

It is recommended that the student visits the website of the department closest to their interests and skills. These web pages give comprehensive information on how to apply for a PhD at LSE and what is required, according to the PhD programme of each department:

If the student's qualifications meet LSE requirements, then the application will be sent to the relevant department's research student admissions tutor, who will consider the case and see whether appropriate supervisory arrangements can be made.

Supervisors could be from the relevant department and/or the Grantham Research Institute. It is important to give as much information as possible about the disciplinary perspectives and research methodologies that are likely to be used, in order to help the Centre identify suitable supervisors.

Other funding schemes and financial support from LSE| may also be available.
