Whole-system “integrative design” makes the energy efficiency resource severalfold bigger than normally assumed\, yet less costly. Modern renewables and their grid integration robustly outcompete fossil-fueled or nuclear power generation. Combined\, these resources can make ambitious climate protection not costly but profitable\, often with increasing returns\, saving immense investments. The tradeoffs and discount-rate dependencies analyzed for the past few decades do not actually exist. Instead\, disruptive designs\, technologies\, and business models are changing the competitive landscape beyond recognition\, merging Edison’s electric industry with Ford’s automaking to devour Rockefeller’s oil industry. Such transformations will let communities build a durable\, deflationary\, resilient economy where wild price swings and major supply failures are nearly impossible.
