DESCRIPTION:Hosted by and Department of Geography and Environment and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment

The climate treaties have sought to limit the economy-wide emissions of individual countries with a view to meeting a collective goal\, and economists have advocated achieving these emission limits using economic instruments. Professor Scott Barrett presents the case for a very different approach\, one that focuses on sectors rather than whole economies\, on the transformation of energy-technology systems rather than emission reductions\, and on action at the global rather than the national level.

Speaker: Professor Scott Barrett

Scott Barrett is Lenfest Earth Institute Professor of Natural Resource Economics at Columbia University and Centennial (Visiting) Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a leading scholar on global challenges\, including climate change\, ocean governance\, and infectious disease eradication.
