Project 3a – Consumption-based carbon accounting and mitigation policies

Project staff: Andy Gouldson

This project has considered the pros and cons of consumption-based approaches in international climate policy, and the implications of these approaches for the Paris Agreement. A paper on the former was submitted to WIRES Climate Change – it received positive reviews and has been revised and resubmitted. A second paper modelling the implications of consumption based approaches for the INDCs is under development and we plan to submit this to Nature Climate Change in July. The work has also fed into our work on climate change and cities where we have completed a paper – probably to go to Global Environmental Change – on the significance of consumption-based blind spots in urban carbon management.

Further updates on this project will be provided in the coming months.
