Dr. Elizabeth Robinson | Grantham Workshop

Date: 26 Jan 2022 12:30 pm — 2:00 pm
Speaker(s): Dr. Elizabeth Robinson
Venue: Online (via Zoom)

Professor Elizabeth Robinson is the Director of the Grantham Research Institute. She will present her paper ‘Food security and health in a climate insecure world’.

Abstract

As countries grow economically, as climate change becomes a reality, and as global markets become more integrated yet more vulnerable to harvest shocks in key “breadbasket” countries, the concept of food security has become more nuanced. In this GRI workshop I will first address the extent to which food security might be better tracked in the context of a changing climate, with a particular focus on systemic risk in the global food system. I will then explore the extent to which we can track whether food security and under-nutrition are improving or worsening as a consequence of a changing climate, and importantly, to what extent we can attribute increases in food insecurity to climate change, as proxied by temperature anomalies – annual temperature difference from mean baseline temperature.

Please email gri.events@lse.ac.uk to request the Zoom joining details for this workshop by by 5pm on Tuesday 25 January 2022.
