From science to practice: adventures in the public sector

Date: 21 May 2014 4:00 pm — 5:15 pm
Speaker(s): Julie Calkins, Research Fellow in the School of Earth and Environment
Venue: School of Earth and Environment Seminar Rooms (8.119), University of Leeds.

Synopsis:
In order for science to be valued as impactful evidence and to inform good practice, it needs to be useful (relevant), usable (accessible), and used (disseminated). During her secondment, Julie contributed to the development of the interdisciplinary scientific evidence-base for 2014 Flooding Response, the Heatwave Plan for England, and the National Adaptation Programme’s understanding and communication of public health impacts of climate change and extreme events. During this seminar Julie will be sharing recent experiences and lessons learned as a knowledge exchange fellow in the public sector, acting as a technical advisor at the interface of science and practice.
