Jouni Paavola

Jouni is a Co-Director of CCCEP, along with Sam Fankhauser.

Jouni is also Professor of Environmental Social Science in the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds and has been in Leeds since 2006. Jouni teaches environmental economics and conducts research on environmental governance institutions and their social justice dimensions.

Jouni is also:

  • Director of Postgraduate Research Studies in the Faculty of Environment at the University of Leeds;
  • Member of the Scientific Committee of the European Environment Agency (EEA);
  • Member of editorial boards of Ecological Economics and Environmental Policy and Governance.

Background

Before joining the University of Leeds, Jouni was Senior Research Associate in the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment (CSERGE) at the University of East Anglia.

Jouni completed an interdisciplinary PhD. in Resource Development (Environmental and Development Studies) at Michigan State University in the United States in 2000.

Research interests

  • Environmental governance institutions, particularly for governance of climate change, biodiversity and ecosystem services;
  • Vulnerability, livelihoods and climate change adaptation;
  • Social justice in environmental matters.
